Mostly the items could be cleaned by a piece of soft cloth easily. Sometimes, warm water is necessary for softening the dirt. In that case, there are less scratches and friction for the leather. Yet, do remember that don't use too much water or even submerge leather bags in water, because that could cause additional water stains. For those complex stains like gum or grease, the above is just not enough to remove the dirt. For example, a dry cloth can be used to soak up the undried grease and then cover cornstarch or sprinkle talcum powder on the dirt. After that just leave it on the leather bag for more than 12 hours and you could remove the stains easily. As to gum, some ice cubes in a bag can help you a lot. Rub it over the gum and then the gum could be hard and stiff. Now, it is quite easy to remove it.
